Marleen Hoebe and Jesse Koch form new duo Silver Lake and today they release their very first single Under The Silver Lake. The song was recorded together with Pieter Vonk.
Six years ago, in a romantic, nocturnal setting of an old pub in Amsterdam, the foundation for the new artistic duo Silver Lake was laid. After meeting each other on stage, Marleen Hoebe and Jesse Koch decided to become partners in life – and later, in music. Just before the onset of the pandemic, the duo decided to explore the creative potential of their relationship more deeply – resulting in the poignant, atmospheric art-pop project Silver Lake.
Just as currents in the sea bring new elements, new creative inspiration flowed into Silver Lake: inspired by their new hometown The Hague, the duo wrote new material on which they worked their compositional, textual and production magic together. Parallels can be drawn with artists such as Alexandra Saviour, Lana del Rey and The Last Shadow Puppets – as well as old troubadours such as Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlewood. With a nostalgic nod to the past but with eyes firmly fixed on the future, and using modern production techniques in symbiosis with old analogue equipment from the 60s and 70s, Silver Lake manages to create a synthesis of a vintage yet contemporary sound.
