FIEP will release the second part of her double EP FRIED RICE, MOON BLISS on 14 March. The double EP was co-written with Willem Smit (Personal Trainer) and recorded with Casper van der Lans at MRF Recordings.

FIEP is the project around musician and songwriter Veerle Suzanna Driessen. She writes accurate indie rock songs that dig deeper than just a catchy hook and pointed melody. Veerle also reveals everything under the surface of the proverbial iceberg: the restlessness, the doubts, the musings and the dreams. A surprising twist and a playful observation are always lurking. Anyway, life is a celebration, and the occasional lapse is just part of it.

A lot of the joyful energy on FRIED RICE, MOON BLISS is due to the fact that FIEP played the basis of much of the material live with her five-piece band. The mutual joy of playing and dynamics is palpable and audible on, for instance, Did The Drummer Change The Bass, which swings like LCD Soundsystem or Blur in the heyday of Britpop. FIEP ends the FRIED RICE side with the intimate, sleep-drunk No Title. Why a diptych rather than a full-blooded album? Because it is to FIEP’s credit to go a little against the norm and further unravel its creativity. Hence, these songs colour just a little further outside the lines than predecessor 77 Stokes Croft.

“FRIED RICE is the sunny side while MOON BLISS represents a bit more the shadow side. It sounds a bit like a contradiction, but it also forms a bigger picture. For me, it’s about being open to life, daring to discover new things and turning to positivity.” – says Veerle.
